Mars Becomes World's Largest Candy Maker

When Mars purchased Wrigley's yesterday afternoon, it became the world's largest candy maker, dethroning Britain's Cadbury.

Wrigley's was founded in 1891, originally as a soap company, and the publicly held company had been controlled by the Wrigley family for more than 100 years. Descendants of Frank Mars continue to run the privately held Mars company which began selling butter cream candies in 1911 in Tacoma, WA.

Wrigley's first gums were used as giveaways to promote baking powder.

Lots of people add candy bars to their cakes, pies or brownies and I found this appropriate recipe with photo in Flickr's public files, making my own minor adjustments. It's a really straight forward recipe, but should be quite gooey and yummy.

Mars Chocolate Bar Brownies
Ingredients:
1 (17.6-ounce) high-quality package brownie mix with walnuts prepared per box directions
Vegetable oil cooking spray or butter and sugar for pan
3 (6-ounce) Mars bars

Directions:
Prepare the brownie mix according to package directions.

Grease and sugar a 13 X 9 inch cake pan.

Evenly spoon in half of the brownie batter. Slice the candy bars and scatter pieces over the batter. Cover with the remaining batter.

Bake according to package directions. Remove from oven and let cool completely. Can you resist that long? ;-)

It should make for a delicious chocolate brownie, especially if served a la mode and with whipped cream.

  3. Yes, yes, yes!
I'm making these as soon as I can get my butt to the store to buy some mars bars.

I'm also interested to see how different chocolate bars (I'm thinking something minty) would taste in brownies.
I guess I'll just have to make a few different bathes to find out.
    :)

    Thanks for the great recipe!
