When I was a child in France my mom always drank her tea or coffee out of a teacup with an elegant and uncommon square foot or pedestal. It was given to her by my grandmother, and was of the finest see-through white porcelain with tiny gold fleur-de-lis and gold banding. I was in love with it, and I am pretty sure it is one of the main reasons I love teacups and the entire tea-drinking experience. Living in Paris, I was quite used to being surrounded by beauty and elegance, but for me this was the epitome of it.
Here, I am sharing teacups with pedestals too. Notice the main photo with an elevated saucer, and the top and bottom teacups on the left with cut-out detailing on the saucers. The bottom teacup and pedestal are six-sided.
