Yummy Nutella Rewards Buyers With Freebies

Nutella is oh so yummy! It was created in Italy during World War II by Pietro Ferrero, a pastry maker and founder of the Ferrero company (it's the filling in Ferrero Rocher!) when chocolate was scarce so the inventor added 13% ground hazelnuts to stretch out the chocolate. I have been eating it since I was a child in Paris, but it has been available in the U.S. on the East Coast since the 80's and for the last 10+ years we can now buy it at just about any grocery store nationwide. I love to spread it on crepes, French or sandwich bread, or even a tortilla. You can also add it to all sorts of desserts calling for chocolate or use it as hot chocolate sauce over ice cream. Or scoop it with fresh strawberries, use it as frosting for a cake or cupcakes. It's very versatile! It's really good!

As an added bonus to this goodness, Nutella is currently giving us the consumers several freebies which works for me! Here's the scoop: Get a T-shirt made from 100% heavyweight, pre-shrunk cotton with 2 gold seals from the jar; 4 spreaders with a hand-painted handle and a stainless steel spreader with 4 gold seals; or a set of two over-sized 16 oz. ceramic cappuccino mugs for ice cream, dessert, chili, soup or your favorite hot beverage with 6 gold seals. Just click here for the details and order form. They even pay for the shipping, it will only cost you one postage stamp to mail in the seals and form!
Have you tried Nutella?
Do you LOVE it as much as I do?

  2. I agree that Nutella is amazing. I first tried it once in high school, but didn't start eating it daily until I spent 5 weeks in Italy. Delicious.

  4. When I discovered nutella is also when I discovered I am diabetic... so, I'm afraid I cannot indulge. However, I'm hoping that one day *someone* will come up with a sugar-free version that I could enjoy! :) Because it is so very delicious! If you or anyone reading does know of a SF verson/something similar, I'd love to know about it!

  7. Andy: 5 weeks in Italy is HEAVEN! I haven't been to Italy in far too many years.

Amanda: I'm sorry, I do not know of a sugar-free version. Beware of those fake sugars though. They are very bad for our health. Now I think you could make your own nutella. It's milk chocolate , 13% ground (powder-fine) hazelnuts and a bit of oil to keep it spreadable.

You could either use sugar-free milk chocolate or add your favorite sugar substitute to non-sweetened chocolate of your choice. It could be a close facsimile with a bit of experimenting in the kitchen.

Thankfully I am not diabetic, but moderation is my trick, and I won't eat dessert on an empty stomach to make sure I don't have extreme highs and lows. My two best friends are diabetic so I've learned a lot about this dreaded disease and don't want it!

  9. I love that stuff. I used to chow on it in Ireland. It was a big day for me when I learned peanut butter was not the only spread out there!

  10. I *adore* nutella, I first discovered it in grade school when a friend of mine spent a summer in France and brought some home with her. Fantastic in crepes! I had no idea the Ferraro Rocher guy created it, but that makes total sense now.
