Wordless Wednesday Linky: I love decorative sugar tongs

I grew up with sugar cubes, so there were always sugar tongs.  My favorite one to play with was the "crab" in the first picture.  I have fond memories of pinching sugar, my napkin, or a small toy, etc., all while I marveled at the mechanism in this French device. You hold your index and middle fingers below the metal insert in the middle, and you push with your thumb at the top.  It's similar to the mechanism in a ballpoint pen. It remains open as long as you push with your thumb, and grabs the sugar cube when you let go.

This lovely poem was attached to the main illustration with the teacup on the right .
Just think Summer's Day.  :-)

Love and Tea
I'm sending you love and tea,
To warm your winter's day.
Think of me as you pour your cup,
And all the good things we would say.
If we could be together now,
Instead of miles apart...
We'd sip our teas and memories,
As the sweet warmth fills the heart.

  4. I didn't grow up with sugar tongs, and frankly didn't know what they were till few years ago. Now, i'm fascinated by them, especially after doing some tea parties. My favorites are ones I find at antique stores! Happy Wednesday!

  8. Great post Joy. I haven't seen sugar cubes in a long time. I guess I am showing my age because I do remember when that was the way sugar was dispensed.
